Understanding Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are a very common anal disease. Patients are troubled by bloody stools, hemorrhoid prolapse or anal pain. However, bloody stools are not always caused by hemorrhoids. Colorectal cancer also has symptoms of bloody stools. Therefore, colon endoscopy is also included in the treatment of hemorrhoids.
- Blood in the stool
- Prolapsed hemorrhoids
- Itching in the anus
- Pain in the anus when the hemorrhoids are constricted
Causes of Hemorrhoids
The venous cushions at the top of the anal canal are tissues that are common in normal people. If the venous cushions bleed or detach, they are called hemorrhoids. As for the exact cause, it is not certain. Long-term constipation and long-term straining during bowel movements, a diet lacking in fiber from fruits and vegetables, long periods of sitting, pregnancy, old age, and genetic factors may increase the risk of hemorrhoids.
Common symptoms of hemorrhoids
Other causes of anal bleeding
- Colorectal cancer
- Polyps
- Anal fissures
- Anal fistulas
- Anal abscesses
Hemorrhoids Treatment
A doctor's examination is required (interview, which refers to the type and severity of hemorrhoids after an anal examination and anoscopy) to determine the appropriate treatment plan. Whether a colonoscopy is needed to rule out the possibility of colon cancer depends on the patient's age and symptoms.
Treatment
It includes conservative treatment and surgical treatment. The treatment method should be selected according to the individual's symptoms, severity and type of hemorrhoids.
