Understanding Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C virus is a virus that is transmitted through blood and deeper body fluids such as semen and vaginal secretions.
- Do not discard used needles and syringes randomly. Put them in a hard can such as a cookie can. Fill it to two-thirds, seal it with tape, write "be careful with sharp objects" on the outside of the can, and then put it in the trash can.
- Avoid sharing daily necessities such as toothbrushes, razors, nail clippers and other tools that can easily cause physical injuries.
- If there are any wounds, they should be properly covered.
- Practice safe sex and use condoms correctly every time.
If I am infected, I should:
- Avoid smoking and drinking to avoid accelerating the chance of cirrhosis or liver cancer.
- Do not take drugs, avoid injecting drugs with syringes, and use methadone for treatment.
- If you cannot give up the syringe injection method, do not share needles, syringes or any other items that may contain blood with others, and use disposable syringes.
- Do not take over-the-counter medicines on your own.
